Bonitata Boutique Wine prides itself on attention to details. Each wine is handcrafted and barrel aged then bottled at the right moment to deliver that special taste to your palate. Our grapes are hand-picked from vineyards located in the Sierra Foothills. The grapes are picked just at the right balance of sugar, pH and acid to produce a very special wine. You can meet the winemaker and ask questions or tour the winery.
Bonitata Boutique Wine is located in the original Bernhard Winery founded in 1874, located at the Bernhard Museum adjacent to the Gold Country Fair Grounds. This historic building is made of stone with two foot thick walls which are partially buried into the hillside. The perfect storage for our hand crafted wines. After enjoying your wine tasting you can take a tour of the rest of the museum. Parking is located at the main museum parking lot just a short walk from the winery. The winery is also available for rent for that special occasion (anniversary, birthday, wedding, etc).
Lone Buffalo Vineyards offers premium Placer County wines crafted by a seasoned winemaker in the ambiance and with the down-to-earth attitude of a small boutique winery. Family owned and operated by Phil, Jill and Jocelyn Maddux, Lone Buffalo Vineyards is doing its part to return Placer County to its post Gold Rush roots as a premium wine-producing region. We emphasize food-friendly, Rhône-style wines with a twist of cowboy and old west philosophy.
Mt Vernon Winery is the largest and most award winning Winery in Placer County; offering 16 to 18 different wines for tasting. The elegant and inviting “Tasting Room” is a vintage Milk House that was built in the 1950’s. People often comment that our winery reminds them of a Thomas Kincaid painting. We often host gorgeous weddings in our beautiful Mt Vernon Gardens. Take the time during your visit to enjoy a glass or even a bottle of wine with your friends on the estate grounds. The winery has beautiful areas that overlook the vineyards with big red umbrellas, humming bird feeders, roses, flowers and trees to delight your senses.

PaZa is surrounded by picturesque views of the Sierra Foothills, the Sutter Buttes, and Coastal mountains. So, we welcome folks who bring lunch, or other treats, to stay and relax with a glass, or a bottle, of our award-winning vino. Owners Pamela and Zane Dobson share an over the top enthusiasm for all things related to wine, and especially appreciate the many people who enjoy wine and life. In short – our wine making style is keeping it simple with serious passion!
When longtime Placer County residents, the Mendez Family, broke-ground on their Auburn vineyard in 1999, they had no illusions of simplicity. “We had complete knowledge when we started Viña Castellano, that it was going to be a labor of love, with a strong emphasis on “labor” said Teena Wilkins, the Vineyard and Winery Manager, and the youngest of Gabe and Carolyn Mendez’ four children.
The family’s love of wine is directly linked to some of the strong Mediterranean traditions that they were raised with. “My Paternal grandparents, Mercedes and Frank Mendez were both born and raised in Spain, and although they immigrated to this country as young adults, they never let go of their strong Spanish customs, of which winemaking and enjoying that wine with food was a large part”, says Wilkins. “In Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and Greece wine is on the lunch and dinner table to be enjoyed in moderation with food. Although my mother is not a Spaniard, (she is of Irish and American-Indian decent) she and my father married in their late teens and early on agreed to raise us with a strong since of tradition from both heritages.”
It is that link with wine and family heritage that has steered the direction of the 8-acre 2000 case boutique vineyard & winery, lovingly named Viña Castellano. “Viña” is the Spanish word for vineyard and Castile is the region in Spain where our grandparents are from and where we still have family today. “Castellano” is what you would call a man from that region, and so we choose that in honor of my father, whose vision inspired the project.” Wilkins is quick to mention, however, that they strongly considered “Castellana” to honor Abuelita, at 99 years old lives at the vineyard.
In keeping with the Mediterranean-niche, the Mendez Family has planted three of the most popular varietals used in Spanish winemaking, Tempranillo, their flagship grape, Mourvedre (known as Monastrell in Spain) and Grenache. In addition to those grapes, they also have planted the Rhone varietal, Syrah, and the Bordeaux varietal, Cabernet Franc.
